Song titles, are one thing, as above, but it never ceases to amaze me, what and how people do things.
By people of course I mean employee’s.
You start a business and like most small business, this usually means you the entrepreneur. You follow this with perhaps some more family members, and then your service/product/ item/goods grows.
You market like crazy, setup and develop your business presence and before you know it, you have employees.
Fellow Directors, are of course also employees.
So what do you do with the pesky things?
Everyone should be as enthusiastic as you are, get the message and want to deliver this to the world 24/7. Trouble is, that this is just not the case.
Even in these recessionary times and difficult times, it is still often the case that people/employee’s do what they want and not what you want.
Spent a good few hours with one of our clients this week discussing their business/service and how things were progressing.
They need their staff to run their business and turnover is up, on the face of it, they are busy, productive, reviews are good, so why, do they (the business owner) feel like at any minute everything could come crashing down.
Staff. Simple as that. This week was one of our regular client reviews.
I now have many tasks to do over the next two weeks with multiple issues cropping up all staff related.
We are rolling out our new handbooks and contracts of employment to the staff, however, some are also going to have to be disciplined and spoken with.
In this line of work, we as a business feel we have to be proactive with our clients and offer them good service and value for money.
By keeping in regular touch and visiting our clients, the old fashioned way, we can learn more about what and how they do and really get to grips with the issues they face ongoing day to day.
There seem over this quarter to be more issues with staff treating their place of work as a social event, rather than a place of work.
There are various ways of dealing with this, and in the coming weeks we will be going through capability studies and reviews with various employees at this particular client site in order to deal with these issues.
The one thing that will never happen around here, is that life and clients get boring. Human nature being what it is, there is always something going on.
